Signal, the leading global security franchise business and the eighth largest security company in North America, has established a franchise partnership in Germany!
Münster-based HessBa Sicherheit GmbH was awarded the Master Franchise for North Rhine-Westphalia region, the most populous of the 16 German federal states.
“We are proud to enter Germany, the economic powerhouse of Europe”, explained Reed Nyffeler, CEO of Signal. “Doing so is an important step in expanding our global network which already includes the UK, Canada, Australia, and its home market (the USA) where more than 700 franchise locations provide security services to nearly 5,000 clients.

Speaking of the opportunities associated with Signal, Kevin Balzer, Co-CEO of HessBa. “We are excited about the new opportunities which the global Signal brand will provide. Its advanced technology will open a new segment of the security market to us and will revolutionize the security industry in Germany and Europe.”
HessBa is a well-established security company which has successfully offered specialized high-level security services for ten years.
“Using the Signal business model will open a much broader segment of the security market. And, it will drive the business forward with an effective and more affordable security model for our local communities,” added Fabian Hesselmann, Co-CEO of HessBa. “The Signal security model emphasizes the much more efficient and effective patrol services for both commercial and private clients.”
Balzer and Hesselmann expect to begin full operations of the Signal security services in early 2022. To that end, extensive training has already begun in anticipation of opening a pilot office to test and adapt the Signal security model to the German market. “Our focus will be patrol services to commercial and private clients”, Fabian detailed the next moves. “We anticipate opening franchise units once the pilot has proven to be successful. I expect this to be during the course of 2022”, Kevin predicted.
A hallmark of the Signal franchise system is its superior training and support systems which have been proven in the rapid growth of its 700-plus North America franchise network. This extensive experience will be leveraged to support the start-up operations in Germany. Shelley Aikins, Vice President of Global Performance for Signal, will leverage the company’s extensive support system to ensure a successful launch of the business in Germany. “We are committed to ensuring that North Rhine-Westphalia master franchise will be successful from day one,” Shelley said.
With the launch of its first master franchise in German, Signal is looking for qualified master franchisees in five more areas in Germany as well as in Austria and Switzerland.
“We expect to be successfully operating in all European countries within the next five years, with a special focus on France, Spain, Italy and Poland. But we are also seeking franchise partners in the Netherlands, Finland, Hungary, and other important markets”, Nyffeler said.
With its unique business model, Signal is positioned to offer affordable and customized security solutions for property, personnel, and other assets requiring protection. Services range from randomized roving vehicle patrols to dedicated services to event services and more. However, the core service offered by Signal is mobile patrols which create a proactive, not reactive, security services.
